Contemporary and modern decor is often thought of as being a lot of different things. From cool and classy to sleek and sophisticated, it is the style that today’s modern homeowner strives for. One thing that it is usually not thought of being is warm and welcoming. In fact, contemporary decor is usually much more impersonal than it is cozy. If you want to have that modern, contemporary look, but with a warm and welcoming feel, try some of the tips and tricks below to help you get started.

Color

Most contemporary rooms are cool in tone. There is a definite edginess to them and the presence of warmth in the undertones is definitely lacking. If you want to warm up your otherwise cool room, start by adding some warmer colors. Some of the most popular colors that transcend the contemporary and modern lines include cranberry, plum, and chocolate brown. These three colors, when combined with a crisp white or cool aqua, can instantly warm up the room and create an inviting presence. There is no need to go overboard with the accents, as even a few throw pillows and a couple of warm colored candles on the mantelpiece can do the trick.

Personal Touches

Another way to make your contemporary home feel warm and welcoming is to add personal touches to the decor. These can be in the form of family photos in small silver frames on the side table or a collection of coordinating knick-knacks on a wall shelf. Even a collection of brightly colored, small glass vases can make a big impact on the feel of the modern room. You do not need to add a lot of personal things, nor do you need to introduce clutter, but adding glimpses of those who live in the home to the decor can make a big difference. If possible, try to choose accessories that have the warmer colors in them to help enhance that feeling of warmth and welcome that you so desire. Add warmth with wooden wall hangings or metal art that has a burnished finish.

Plants

Forget about artificial flowers and break out the large potted palms and ficus trees instead. The greenery adds a quick, natural look to the room and provides you with a warmth and vitality that so many contemporary decors are lacking. If large plants are not your idea of classy decor accessories, add a vase of warm, orange daisies to the coffee table to add both visual interest and warm undertones to the room. Even a small, green bonsai tree on a coffee table can be a great accent, as it provides the warm green color while also making the space feel more welcoming and relaxed.

Contemporary decor should be about the latest lines and styles. It should have an uncluttered look and edgy feel, but it does not have to be unwelcoming and cold. Instead, add in small touches of warmth to make the space feel inviting. You will find that with a few simple additions, your cold and impersonal room will be transformed into a quiet haven of rest and relaxation.
