Creating a Bedroom Sanctuary with Fung Shui

If you are like most folks, you are spending the bulk of your time at work or working from home, which makes unwinding at the end of a hard day important to your physical and mental well-being.   You can create a Feng Shui bedroom sanctuary that will improve the flow of positive energy throughout this very important room in your home.

Reduce Electrical Interference

An important part of creating your bedroom sanctuary based on the principles of Feng Shui is to remove as many electronic devices as possible from the room.  Electromagnetic fields in the bedroom can cause a decline in your personal energy.  Big no-no's for the bedroom include televisions and computers, which can inhibit your chi.  Replace your electric alarm clock with a battery powered version, or move your alarm clock to the other side of the room.

Avoid Mirrors in the Bedroom

According to Feng Shui principles, if you have a mirror in your bedroom, you are inviting infidelity into your relationship, or, if you are not married, you will decrease your chances of finding a mate.  Mirrors in the bedroom are also thought to exacerbate health problems, including depression and stress. Instead of a mirror, choose a serene tropical wall art or metal tree wall art.  If you must have a mirror in the bedroom, cover the mirror at night with a dark cloth.

Organization and Clutter Reduction

Positive energy cannot flow within your bedroom (or any room in the home) if the room is cluttered and disorganized.  Having a place for everything is important, and this includes the closet. Go for a closet organization system that will help you keep all your "stuff" behind closed doors.

Placement of Your Bed

You should place your bed in a position that allows you to see the entrance to the bedroom from where you are lying so that positive energy flowing into the room can find you easier.  Do not place the bed along the same wall as the bedroom's entrance.  Keep the door to your bedroom or any other doors within the bedroom closed at night to keep positive energy inside.

Temperature and Airflow

You should aim to keep your bedroom sanctuary at a temperature that is comfortable to you personally so that you are more receptive to positive energy.  You should also make sure that air flows well through the room so that positive energy is circulated.  Open your windows when you can to allow fresh air into your bedroom, or use an air purifier in the winter months.  You might also go for a small desk fan or ceiling fan that helps to move the air around.

Use Your Bedroom for Sleeping and Sex Only

Your bedroom sanctuary must be used for two purposes, sleeping and sex.  This means that you cannot turn part of your bedroom into your home office, which so many people tend to do.  If space limitations require that your office be in the bedroom, you must at very minimum put up a room divider so that the sleeping space is separate from your working space. Working in the bedroom can allow negative energy to penetrate the room.

These are great tips; I've always wanted to learn a bit more about Feng Shui. I'm minimalist as it is (example: my bedroom has NO mirrors and not a single electronic device unless I charge my phone in there), but I find your first photograph stunning in terms of design.

I'm going to put these principles into practice! Thanks.
